My friend insists that I am Liberal and have more democrat beliefs then republican, is he right?

Your views on the issues don't matter. The way you figure out which type a person you are (in this case Liberal or Conservative) is to figure out to what degree you want things to happen. If you believe in progress and getting things done now your probably Liberal, if you are skeptical of change and believe testing the waters first your probably Conservative.
